One of the most keenly awaited events in the Christmas
period takes place in Marchetto, in the township of Valdilana, where the whole
village turns into one of Italy’s biggest nativity scenes.
From 8 December to 9 January, life-size figures will
line the streets, surprising visitors and amazing kids.
Kids are the real protagonists of this regular event,
this year’s being the 34nd. They can look forward to a visit from a
special guest of honor on the Epiphany, the Befana,
while on Christmas Eve there will be a procession through the streets of
Marchetto culminating in the lighting of a bonfire.
Marchetto is easy to reach by bus. The route through
the nativity scene, which lasts around an our, is also accessible to the disabled.
The visit to this nativity scene can be combined with a walk to the Borgo di
Babbo Natale (Father Christmas Village), the Ricetto di Candelo (around 20 km away),
the Meccanico nativity scene and the Bosco di Callabiana nativity scenes (around
10 km away), excursions in Oasi Zegna, where it’s possible to admire the Santuario
della Brughiera di Trivero.
