A long-term commitment to bring our woodlands back to life
Under the Zegna Forest project, started up in small lots in 2015 and fully operational in 2020, action has focused mainly on the European spruce stands, in that they are more exposed to damage caused by climate change: meteorological events, fires or parasite attacks.
The areas planted with European spruce using the reforestation techniques of the period are monospecific, very dense and all of the same age and height.
This produces enormous fragility with respect to any event that occurs.
As temperatures rise compared to the levels at the time of planting, certain species once deemed suitable are now outside their natural habitat.
Our work on the over 300 hectares of European spruce is being carried out sustainably, as certified by the FSC®, and is planned over a period of 15 years to achieve a gradual transformation of the territory by gradually replacing the spruce with more suitable species to obtain mixed broadleaf/conifer woodland.
We are working to rebuild a tree population as natural as possible, diversified in terms of species, structure and age, in order to increase resilience and strength and guarantee it a future. In this way, whatever event may happen, it won’t be able to impact across the entire the entire surface area and parts of the woods will in any case continue to live and perpetuate themselves.

The effect we’re obtaining is already visible: where we’ve intervened, the woods have come alive again, air circulates once again and light reaches the ground in the clearings, bringing new life.
